The Oculus Rift CV1 shipped in March. The HTC Vive followed in April. For the first time, consumer VR hardware was in people’s homes — and the modding community that had spent 2015 building for the DK2 dev kit suddenly had to figure out what “VR” meant on hardware that could do room-scale tracking and motion controllers.

The tools that defined 2015 — VorpX, Dolphin VR, Vireio — all had to adapt. Some did. Some didn’t. And a new question emerged that would shape the scene for years: if VR now means standing up and using your hands, what happens to the seated, gamepad-driven injection drivers that built the community?
