Who we are
CompoundVR ("we", "us", "the site") is an independent editorial publication covering flat-to-VR games, mods, and setup guides. The site is informational: we do not sell products or services, and we do not require you to create an account to read it.
Information we collect
We do not ask for your name, email address, or any other personal details. There is no account system, no newsletter signup, no comment system, and no checkout on this site. The information we do collect is limited to what is generated automatically when you browse:
- Usage and analytics data. Through Google Analytics, we collect aggregate, non-identifying information such as the pages you view, the time you spend, the site that referred you, your approximate location (country or region), your browser and device type, and your language. This is used to understand which articles are useful and to improve the site.
- Technical data. Like nearly every website, the servers that host and serve this site log standard technical information — including IP address, browser type, and the pages requested — for security, troubleshooting, and abuse prevention.
Cookies and similar technologies
Google Analytics sets cookies and similar identifiers in your browser so it can distinguish visits and measure how the site is used. These cookies do not identify you by name. You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings; the site will continue to work without them.
How we use information
- To operate, maintain, and secure the site.
- To understand, in aggregate, how readers use the site so we can improve content and structure.
- To comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Third-party services
A limited set of third parties help us run the site. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) — aggregate traffic measurement and reporting. See Google's privacy policy and the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Google Fonts (Google LLC) — web typography delivered from Google's content network, which receives your IP address when fonts load.
- GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.) — the hosting platform that serves the site and keeps standard server logs.
We choose these services to keep the site fast and reliable, and we do not permit them to use your data for their own advertising on our behalf.
Outbound links
Our articles often link to external sites — store pages, mod repositories, developer pages, and video coverage. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to review their policies. We do not currently use affiliate links.
Legal bases for processing
Where data protection law (such as the GDPR) applies, we process data on the following bases:
- Legitimate interests — operating, securing, and improving the site, and understanding aggregate readership.
- Consent — where required, for analytics cookies, which you may withdraw at any time via your browser settings.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information by law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we do not maintain accounts and collect only aggregate analytics data, there is usually little or nothing tied to you personally — but we will honor any valid request. To make one, contact us using the details below.
Data retention
Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention settings and our configuration. Server logs are retained only as long as necessary for security and operational purposes.
International transfers
Our third-party providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Those providers maintain safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for cross-border transfers as required by applicable law.
Children's privacy
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is no common industry standard for how to respond to it, the site does not currently act on those signals. You can limit analytics through your browser's cookie controls or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on linked above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves — for example, if we add new features or third-party services. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
